I suffered for years, but it improved when I started Paxtil / Aropax (Antidepressant). It's not to be taken lightly, and get good medical advice first, but it solved my problem after years of intense unwelcome anxiety.
References :
I don't know how old you are, but you might want to join a club that you're interested in, just to meet people without too much intense interaction.
One such club could be Toastmasters. They help people build confidence in public speaking and are very supportive and it may be a good start for you. Build up the confidence bit by bit, even if public speaking is not your ultimate goal.
I am very much against taking any type of prescription drugs for this kind of thing, as the side effects can be worse (taking them and withdrawal) than the original problem, unless the condition is extreme.
References :
Ex sufferer, but no more.
