Panic Disorder Treatment can be found in many different places and if you have a few minutes I will show you how you can be rid of Panic Attacks and general Anxiety forever.

Before I show you I would like to tell you a short story of how Panic Attacks affected me and you will soon see the similarities in our situations.

I was about 30 years old and my first-born daughter was probably about 5 months old. We left England around that time to go live in the wonderful Knysna Forest in South Africa. We lived in a quant little cottage a few miles from town surrounded by beautiful trees and a dam. All the exotic birds you can imagine would visit our bottle brush tree in the mornings. It was a perfect start for a wonderful family that was ready to tackle life head on and succeed in making all our dreams come true.

For about a year or so I was experiencing a few of the minor symptoms of anxiety and didn’t feel it necessary to seek a panic disorder treatment yet alone know I had a disorder. Butterflies in the stomach for no reason, shortness of breath and hot and cold sensations. For me they didn’t seem to appear at any specific time or situation. I shrugged these off and continued with my life as if nothing was wrong however, it did concern me but I was too proud to talk to anyone about this.

panic disorder treatement

One perfect evening my wife and I were chatting in bed with the little one between us. A very light hearted chat with the odd giggle, playing with our new born baby then, SMACK!! I get some butterflies in my stomach. It moves on to serious stomach cramps. I start to get very cold and start shaking. I get up to go to the toilet as it feels like I have a case of diarrhoea and need to get there quickly. My legs crumble from under me and I struggle to stand up again as they feel as if they are made from jelly. My wife immediately gets this look of shock on her face as she has never seen this before. I make it to the toilet and sure as heck it’s diarrhoea. Whilst in the bathroom I continue to got from hot to cold and my muscles start to spasm. I finish what I need to do and try to make my way back to the bedroom on legs that feel frozen and like jelly the same time . Does any of this sound familiar?

I’m now shaking uncontrollably and find myself in the featal position clinging onto my wifes hand for dear life with the thoughts of death on the horizon. A strong feeling that I’m about to die. My wife is terrified. What can I do for you babe she says? I can hardly talk as my teeth are chattering away uncontrollably.

I try to follow my breath as I was once tought by my yoga teacher. It’s hard as I’m hyperventalating but my wife helps me through it. I’m exhausted. My breathing begins to normalize slowly but surely. I can’t talk. I’m exhausted. I fall into a peaceful sleep to arrise normally in the morning.

I need to find out what this is and I do. It’s a panic disorder and treatment is needed fast.

This first extreme case of a panic attack scared the life out of me and it would’ve continued to be debillatating if I didn’t seek treatment for this panic disorder. Yes, yours might not be as bad or in fact it might be worse. Mine did not occur at any particular time or event but for some people it does perhaps whilst driving in a car or on a plane or in a shopping mall or even whilst socializing. One thing is for sure, you need a panic disorder treatement.

I found this to be the most successful one and I urge you to go and read what people are saying about it. See the testimonials of these people.

I want to ask my doctor about a prescription for it. I’ve tried anti-depressants in the past, and they seemed to only make things worse (made me extremely depressed, suicidal, etc.,). I think Xanax would help me relax and help with my constant muscle tension. Anyone else’s experiences?
I’ve got to do something-just going to Wal-Mart (as I did thirty minutes ago) gives me Panic Attacks.

Xanax is different from most benzodiazepines; it has an incredibly short half-life, and that’s why it’s harder to discontinue than the others. Some anti-depressants (especially escitalopram, brand name Lexapro) are effective against Social Anxiety Disorder and are typically a good option. I’m sorry to hear that they didn’t work for you. Xanax is very effective too, but you might want to consider a benzodiazepine with a longer half-life first. If it doesn’t work well enough for your symptoms, Xanax is still on the table as the next option. Ultimately your doctor is the only one of us that has a prescription pad, so his/her opinions about these various medications will come into the equation as well. I really hope you have a good conversation with him/her and get some relief from your anxiety.

get a stick and beat him as hard as u can, when u seen him near your pigeons. dont wry the cat wont die or bleed. cats has one sort character that if it faces danger at some spot it wont go there again. i used to follow this principle coz i has lost many pigeons, budgies and albs to it. this would be the best solution.

when u experience one..what are the dominant symptoms that you experience?

I have suffered from panic attacks for 5 years….when they first started I would get dizzy, every negative thing I could think of would race through my head, I would get cold but be sweating, my heart would race, I would shake, and my chest would hurt….after years of living with it, I got sick of them and did alot of research and realized that they can’t hurt me….the best way to overcome them is to understand what they are and that they won’t hurt you. after you realize this, when you start to feel them coming on you will be able to ignore them and eventually your brain will become accustomed to this and they will pass within seconds with no problem….good luck and God bless you….

My panic attacks have been getting worse lately and i starting to get scared. People at my school are starting rumors and i just want it to stop. Am i really going crazy?

Your best bet is to just face your fear. I suffer from high stress/anxiety/Panic Attacks as well, they are scary, but you just have to learn to live with them. It helps to talk to someone about it so you can vent your feelings and let some stress out. You can see a doctor and discuss it with them and they can put you on a medication that can help lower your anxiety as well. But definitely start by talking to people.

Another thing to help out is to eat healthy. Make sure to eat banana’s at least once a day as those help your body get into the right feeling. I had a panic attack a few days ago and ate a banana, drank lots of water, and then felt as if nothing happened.

It is scary at first, but you just need to learn how to put up with them and don’t try to fight them away, just let it flow! I hope this helps in some way.

I believe I have a serious case of social anxiety disorder although I have never been professionally tested (due to the fact that I’m scared to see a doctor about it — go figure).

I have been with my fiance for a year and I almost break down into massive Panic Attacks everytime I am in the company of his parents. I have become unglued at dinner with them, spilling water all over the table due to my shaking hands. I avoid most of their family parties and claim either sickness or another event to attend. My fiance even says my nervousness is very noticeable and that I sometimes look like a complete mess. He tells me all the time to calm down and act myself, but I can’t. I don’t know why this happens to me but it does.

This happens with other things as well. I am petrified to continue my education and go off to college. I attempted it but I was nervous everyday in class and uneasy. I am a day care teacher and speaking with my boss and the children’s parents is a STRUGGLE! Help me!
I met my fiance at a high school party when I was under the influence of alcohol. I would have never had the nerve to approach him sober.

Also, job interviews….most nerve wrecking events in my life. I spend days worrying about them.

Medications often used for chronic, severe, or generalized social anxiety disorder include:
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), to relieve anxiety. SSRIs are often the first type of medication used to treat generalized social anxiety disorder.
Benzodiazepines, to relieve anxiety. They are fast-acting; however, they may be habit-forming and are not generally used in those with substance abuse problems.
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), to relieve depression and anxiety. MAOIs have potentially serious side effects when they are taken with certain foods (such as some cheeses and red wine).
Beta-blockers, to reduce anxiety. Beta-blockers are sometimes used to treat physical symptoms of anxiety (such as tremors or rapid heart rate).
Venlafaxine, to help relieve anxiety and depression.
Ongoing treatment of social anxiety disorder usually includes continuing psychological counseling and regular checkups to monitor any medications you may be taking.

If professional counseling alone has not reduced your anxiety symptoms, medications may be added to your treatment.

It is possible to overcome the fears associated with social anxiety disorder. Working through fears with a specific type of therapy-cognitive-behavioral therapy that includes exposure therapy-may be the best approach for treating your anxiety. It is important to continue professional counseling even if you are taking medications to reduce anxiety.

Types of therapy that effectively treat social anxiety disorder include:

Cognitive-behavioral therapy, which helps you identify anxieties and situations that provoke the anxiety. Initially, you may feel uncomfortable while addressing the feared situations, but it is an important part of your recovery. Several types of cognitive-behavioral therapy are used to treat social anxiety disorder, including:
Exposure therapy. You will be guided by a professional counselor to imagine you are facing the feared situation until you no longer fear it, such as eating in public. Next, you may go with your counselor to a public place and eat until, eventually, you can eat by yourself in public without fear.
Social skills training. This therapy helps you develop the skills you need in social situations through rehearsing and role-playing. Your anxiety is reduced as you become more comfortable with and prepared for the feared social situations.
Cognitive restructuring. This therapy helps you learn to identify and improve fearful thinking to help you better handle social situations.
Symptom management skills. This therapy teaches you how to reduce stress by controlling your breathing and other physical responses to anxiety.
Supportive therapy. This can include:
Education about the disorder.
Family therapy, to support loved ones affected by your condition.
Group therapy or support groups, to seek support from others also diagnosed with the disorder.
If your anxiety is triggered by many social situations (generalized), you may need continuous and prolonged treatment with a combination of counseling and medications. During this time, your health professional will need to monitor your medications. If one medication is ineffective, you and your health professional may decide you should try another.

With social anxiety disorder, it is possible to progress from debilitating fear of one social situation to having anxiety about all social encounters (generalized). If this occurs, additional treatment is needed that usually includes adding medications and increasing the amount of professional counseling you receive.

You may also feel more anxious when starting professional counseling. This is because you are thinking about the situations that cause you fear and anxiety. Once the situations have been identified, the fears can be addressed through counseling-especially cognitive-behavioral therapy which includes exposure therapy-gradually exposing you to your fear.

If you are taking medications to treat social anxiety disorder, you will need regular checkups to monitor the medications (such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and their potential side effects. The medications may cause bothersome side effects that may make your anxiety worse at first. These side effects may get better over time. But if they do not, you may need to take a different medicine.

If social anxiety disorder is left untreated or improperly treated, it can cause debilitating distress that interferes with daily activities. Physical symptoms such as rapid heart rate, blushing, shortness of breath, and dizziness can occur and need to be assessed.

Other psychological conditions (such as depression or substance abuse) may accompany social anxiety disorder, and these conditions need additional treatment. If left untreated, the combination of social anxiety disorder and another psychological condition (such as depression) can increase the risk of attempted suicide.

And are anxiety attacks a disease? Can it be cured? How? What happens when you have an anxiety attack?

Anxiety attacks are not something you are born with. They usually strike in adulthood. When I had my first one, i thought I was having a heart attack. The doc accused me of being on cocaine, because my heart rate was 130 or so. I was clean as could be, but scared to death. My husband I had argued most of the day that day. It just came on me so suddenly without warning. I had trouble breathing, my hands went numb and tingly, my heart was pounding, and I had a sense of impending doom, like I was gonna die.

I finally got back to "normal", the docs never really did tell me what was wrong, as this was before "Anxiety Attacks" were recognized as a real problem. I did my own research over the years. I learned when one was coming on, and I can pretty much control them now with deep breathing exercises. What’s so odd about anxiety attacks is that they can strike at the oddest time. I have laid down to go to bed, and had an attack. Sometimes, if they’re severe and frequent, I’ll take valium for a couple days.

I’ve never really learned what causes anxiety attacks, just ways of coping with them. I’ve never really learned what triggers them, as they occur with me at the most odd times.

Good luck to you. You can live with anxiety attacks. If you find they’re debilitating, see a doctor and find a good therapist. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve learned to control mine mostly on my own, with a little help from a sympathetic doctor.

I have anxiety disorder which sometimes border on Panic Attacks. I seem to get them more so when I am reading or studying, especially if I am at the library. I get these rushes of anxiety and sometimes feel that my mind is disconnecting with my body. In any case, why does this seem to happen when I am reading or studying? Anyone have any good tips on how to control Anxiety Attacks?

Hi agua,
in my experience anxiety can sometimes be triggered when there is too much mental stimulation… reading or studying might be mentally stimulating enough for you to trigger anxiety feelings… when you are reading or in a library, it is hard to distract yourself from the sensations that you are experiencing, and so you probably find it hard to ignore them, then worry about them and so they increase… they increase and so you start to panic about what might happen… its a bit of a visious circle!

That disconnecting thing that you experience… thats perfectly normal for people who suffer from anxiety… its a self-protective way for the brain to decrease the experience of fear, by removing itself from the situation… this might be helpful in a place where having fear is appropriate (like being attacked by a lion), but it doesnt help us, of course, when we are just having panic attacks for no reason! You are not alone with these experiences!

The best way i know how to control these experiences is by not trying to control them, but doing the opposite… encourage them! That sounds stupid? let me explain…
If you try to stop these sensations, you imediately focus in on them and so they intensify… its like telling someone not to spill a drink… imediately they tense up and watch the cup, and start shaking etc… instead, say to yourself "i’m going to allow myself to have anxiety"… give yourself permission to be anxious… allow it to happen… relax and allow yourself to fully experience your sensations, and your worries, and your thoughts… allow it all to happen… let it wash over you… you’ll find that it carries on briefly and then it loses its energy and fizzles out… you’ll start to relax and the tension will subside…

if this all sounds crazy to you, then i encourage you to give it a try at home first, where you are in a totally safe environment… it takes a bit of courage to allow yourself to experience your feelings, especially if they are feelings that you dont like…

its not a case of ‘resigning’ yourself to having anxiety, its just a case of ‘accepting’ things as they are… accepting yourself for who you are and what you are experiencing… only then, when you accept it for what it is, can you start to work on addressing the anxiety and reducing your symptoms.

give it a go,
and always try to relax… breath slowly, relax…

jtnccc (above) has some good tips…
he says:
you could use relaxing music with an mp3 player…
take regular breaks from your studying (every 15 mins?): to have a walk around, distract yourself, relax and breath slowly and deeply

best of luck and take care
zag

BTW, i recomend CBT therapy… its very effective for anxiety. i’m still looking for a good book on the subject tho.
give me an email thro my profile if you’d like any more tips
