Panic disorder treatments running low..out of ideas?
ByI have had panic disorder with agoraphobia for over a decade now and house bound for the last 2 1/2 of those. I have tried calming/breathing techiques, meds, therapy, cbt (cognative behavioral therapy) and it helps a bit, but still stuck in the house. My main problem (of many..oy) is that I am a catastrophizer and imagine the worst case scenario and accept that this will be the only outcome. I am wondering if I can subconsciously alter my perception. I have not tried hypnotherapy, but from my youth I remember being able to insert objects into my dreams to help me awake from a nightmare. Maybe the same can be applied for the onset of an attack? Almost out of options, folks. My wife is a psychologist and she doesn’t get involved due to the whole ethical deal and I respect that, but she did say that I was the most severe case she had ever seen or read about. DSM poster boy I guess..lol. Any options or opinions? I’ve seen so many doctors and think the next step is hospitalization
Thanks, just a Christian, but I’m pretty firm in my non faith, so that’s out. Appreciate it anyway
"Just get out and do it" is pretty much cbt. It’s desensitization and makes you let panic pass through you. Much easier said than done. It’s like shooting someone and telling them to be quiet. Ever had an attack?
don’t know author but book called from panic to power where you turn your panic into excitment and think differently all i remember and did read most of it.author wrote about her own struggles and how she changed ex. afraid to fly causing Panic Attacks and turned thinking into it is fun o.k. to feel this way, and somehow was empowered by own fears. Self talk and new belief system and probably practice and over time thought process changed because challenged her fears and gained confidence at same time and added humor i think.

anti-psychotics helped me.and a bi-polar med,along with my anti-dep.
when i became a christian, most of my symptoms went away.the worst thing that can happen to me now,is that i get to go to paradise when i die.
lots of people dont think my religious beliefs have anything to do with my recovery, but they are wrong.i tried every med in the world, and too was crippled to the house.i dont mean to preach.i just realized thats what it sounds like…sorry.
i honestly know how you feel.
my prayers for you!

Hi-
I don’t want to sound rude but my advice is: forget hypnotherapy, hospitalization and etc… You have to take yourself in hands and say " I can overcome anything". If you can’t help yourself, nobody can.
Don’t ignore or try to avoid your problem – simply face it and accept it. Pay attention to details such as what triggers my fears?
This may sound scary, but try each day to do something you are afraid of- this is the best way to deal with fear.
And last – you attract to yourself what you think of so think positive all the times and believe that the outcome will be the best. When you believe, you make your mind to accept what you have got.
I wish you all the best!
