Treatment for Panic? Please Help..
ByHi, would anyone know if there is a natural or herbal remedy for panic? For the past 4 years or so I have been avoiding lots of places where there is alot of people around or the place is hard to escape (like the middle of the mall or something), because right away i start to panic and my heart starts pounding and i get dizzy and start to feel faint (almost like im just about to pass out but i never actually faint), most of the time the feeling will happen, but then on occasion it will quickly pass once i get used to the setting im in or the place is easy to escape. These little spells only last like a few seconds to a minute. I know it sounds weird but i also KNOW its all im my head. Im not depressed or anything i just want to go back to public places and not have to worry about getting those horrible feelings at all. And it mainly only happends when im not in my comfort zone (like house or at work). I dont feel like going to a psychologist and have them throw me on anti-depressents but if its a last resort i might consider (if it works). I’m 0 sure that there is nothing physicaly wrong with me, its just fear. What would you call this kind of thing? Panic Attack? Panic Disorder? Anxiety? Anxiety Disorder? Agoraphobia? or just plain Fear? Please if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it. I can’t continue living this way because it will only get worse as it already is. Thank You!
In Wikipedia, the definition of agoraphobia is given as: "Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."
That does sound like what you are describing. I’m not a doctor, but I think maybe you have agoraphobia plus Panic Attacks. You should probably see a doctor and/or a counselor if this does not go away. I had something similar to this when I was 13-14 years old, and basically didn’t leave the house apart from when I had to go to school (and I tried to get out of doing that too).
Re. natural remedies, many people like to use aromatherapy for anxiety and panic attacks. This can both help to keep calm and relaxed generally so that you are less likely to get these attacks, and can also be used when you feel an attack coming on.
Lavender is good, and so are helichrysum (also known as everlasting or immortelle), frankincense, and marjoram. You can put a few drops of one or a combination of two or more oils in a warm bath to relax you at night. Or mix a few drops of aromatic oil with a larger amount of grapeseed or olive oil and massage into your skin.
You can carry a small bottle of lavender (or other) oil with you and put a couple of drops on a tissue to inhale when you start feeling panicky.
Also, both for prevention and acute cases, you should breathe deeply and slowly. Practice the yoga breathing technique where your stomach expands when you breathe in and contracts when you breathe out (the opposite of how most people breathe). In the beginning, hold one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest and start the process by breathing in while your stomach goes out, etc. Then it will come naturally.
This breathing technique is a great way to calm down by lowering your heart rate and blood pressure.

You are having panic attacks. Go see a psychiatrist and get put on some meds for this. I am on Klonopin and Prozac and feel a lot better

Yeah I understand I been haveing bad panic and anixety attacks about the stuff that has happend in the past,to the point were i dont know who i am,and to the point were i dont want to leave home thinking i make get a panick attack i cant even go no were because i think im not myself and my heart starts to race to the point i cant breathe hope you feel better,talk to me about it im trying to go get medicine so i can calm down it sucks.

Panic and Anxiety disorder is a nasty thing. I have the combo. The attacks will come and go. The best thing you can do is A. get medical care (I recommend Zoloft and a benzodizapam). Beyond that you have to always remember that you aren’t going to die, you can always call 9/11 and you’re going to make it. The longer you wait to get treatment the worse it will get.

There are herbal remedies for panic disorder and panic attacks. You have the right to decide to not take medications from a Dr no matter what anyone tells you. Just search online or go to a health food store or vitamin/supplement store. And i’m not talking about walmart or a Drug store

is important that you know how to control panic attacks. If you know what causes your panic attacks, you can better prepare for them before they occur and be able to control panic attacks and your negative feelings. By learning to relax, you teach your body to follow your mind and control panic attacks. Breathing is the key to learning how to control panic attacks. Practice these techniques for at least 20 minutes everyday to control panic attacks. If your panic attacks are severe, it might be time to seek professional help to control panic attacks.
