Treatment for Social Anxiety?

By admin

If you have been diagnosed with social anxiety what has helped the most for you? Have you tried Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with medication or did you stick to just medication? If you were just on medication how well did this work for you? Please no rude answers! Thanks in advance!

I have been prescribed effexor rx 75mg and have been using it for my social anxiety for about 6 years now and it has been the perfect drug for me. Everyone reacts differently to drugs, but I recommend this one. I also meet with a psychiatrist. At first I met with the psychiatrist once every other week and now I go just to check in like once every three months. I highly recommend doing this (they can really help you overcome your most difficult situations and get to the bottom of it, the meds are just a little help in the process). Good luck! (Remember those awful Panic Attacks are all in your head and you can overcome them!)

Cognitive behavioral therapy fixed .. if not completely cured my social anxiety. It definitely helped. For best results you should try a combination of medication and CBT. At first the medication can give you that little extra "boost" you need to get through your therapy and calms you down so you can better deal with your anxieties. What I did was I used it during my therapy and slowly tapoured off. There’s no need to be on it for ever !

i’m seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist. i think its good to talk to someone but the medication definitely can help you too. a mixture of both i think is the way to go. there are so many medications. paxil, lexapro, zoloft, effexor, celexa, welbutruin, xanax, valium, ativan and klonopin and on and on. every person is different. some medications work great with one person and work bad with another. i tried paxil and lexapro and it didn’t help me. i’m on effexor now and it helps me but the side effects have annoyed me so i’m not sure yet if i’ll be able to stay on it.

Before you spend tons of money fixing this diagnosed problem, investigate the power of your mind. That’s where the problem exists.

Even thought I really never had social anxiety I always use to get nervous when it came to present a speech in front of the class room, but after doing several speeches and taking two college courses in public speaking, My shyness gradually went away and I can say I feel alot more comfortable in public speaking. Try taking a college class or some type of event in order to practice a speech whether if it be twenty people or two, you need to start off slow and gradually work your way up. Like I said I never Had this type of anxiety to an extreme, but I Hope my advice can effectively motivate you to try to break a little bit out of your confortable zone and face your fear and I know deep within yourself, you also have the strength to get over it. Just remember three things, Patientce, time, and most importantly, have faith in yourself that you know you can achieve success.
